Esala Perahera Buddhist Festival
The religious festival of Esala Perahera is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. This is an annual festival held in July and/or August. The Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha is housed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. On this occasion, the participants hold traditional local dances such as fire-dances, whip-dances, Kandyan dances and various other cultural dances. Elephants who are usually adorned with lavish garments.
